Clinical diagnostic tests for the sacroiliac joint: motion and palpation tests.

چکیده

Numerous motion tests for diagnosing SIJ dysfunction have been described in the literature (van der Wurff et al 2000a & b). None is superior to another illustrating that physiotherapists should be suspicious with regard to the clinical relevance claimed by some authors. In general, motion tests of the SIJ can be reduced to 3 main directions: backward motion of the ilium (‘spine test’), forward motion of the ilium (‘overtake phenomenon’, forward flexion test, Gillet test, standing flexion test), and lateral motion of the ileum (latero-flexion test). As an example we shall focus on the Gillet test, the most extensively described test in this field (Gillet & Liekens 1981).

The reliability of selected motion- and pain provocation tests for the sacroiliac joint.

The objective of the study was to assess inter-rater reliability of one palpation and six pain provocation tests for pain of sacroiliac origin. The sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is a potential source of low back and pelvic girdle pain. Diagnosis is made primarily by physical examination using palpation and pain provocation tests. Previous studies on the reliability of such tests have reported inconclu...

Diagnosing painful sacroiliac joints: A validity study of a McKenzie evaluation and sacroiliac provocation tests.

Research suggests that clinical examination of the lumbar spine and pelvis is unable to predict the results of diagnostic injections used as reference standards. The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of a clinical examination in identifying symptomatic and asymptomatic sacroiliac joints using double diagnostic injections as the reference standard. In a blinded concurre...

Possible role of the long dorsal sacroiliac ligament in women with peripartum pelvic pain.

BACKGROUND To enhance the understanding of the pathophysiology of women with peripartum pelvic pain, it is necessary to couple anatomical insights with relevant clinical research. In this context, the long dorsal sacroiliac ligament is especially of interest because it was noticed that women diagnosed with peripartum pelvic pain frequently experience pain within the boundaries of this ligament....
